We all have gifts.  Whether we recognize them or not is another issue.

I acknowledged a long time ago that the stories I write come from way beyond me.  So I do my best to share my gift and help those who are not as able to help themselves.

People with special needs are everywhere.
Most often we just choose to not see or hear them.

What is a "Special Need"?

The term 'special need' means different things to different people.
I believe that a person with special needs is someone who finds him- or herself bearing the burden of any of these conditions or circumstances:

Developmental Impairment
Homelessness
Hunger
Imprisonment
Mental Illness
Physical Disability
Working Poor

Have you ever heard the phrase,
"There, but for the grace of God, go I."

The book-signing events that I do are for the benefit of organizations that provide education, assistance and support services for people (and their animal friends) with special needs.

I have helped support:

Children's Miracle Network

Fish of McHenry (Food Pantry)

Heartland Animal Shelter (www.heartlandanimalshelter.net)

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

Mamre / Special Religious Development (www.spred.org)

National Fragile-X Foundation

Resources for Community Living (www.rcl2bindependent.org)

Rest In His Arms (www.restinhisarms.org)

The Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth

See the "Order Books" section to learn more about how you can enjoy a good book and help one of these organizations.

If you are involved with a charity that can use some help, send me an email.  These events are always a lot of fun.  We raise some money and give voice to those who may not be able to speak for themselves.
